Day 3 Day 3: Michigan; Munising to Grand Marais, Mi Aug 29 50 miles There is a big hill going out of Munising! Not far outside of Munising, we encountered an energetic couple, the Hayman's, from the Sudbury area of Ontario, in their 70s with large packs on both the front and back of their bicycles. When we caught up with them, they stopped to chat. Turned out they were on their 103 rd day of bicycling this summer, having ridden over 5,000 miles from their home in Canada East of the Soo to visit their relatives in Washington State!!! Wow! what an inspiration they were to us! In Grand Marais where we spent our third night, we biked for 5 miles around the quaint town and along the break wall there, visited their local brewery pub the Lake Superior Brewing Co.-Sands Saloon, then hiked the Grand Sable Sand Dunes. Standing on the Dunes, we watched for a green flash as the sun went down over the the Lake. We had a great meal in a restored 1949 Paramount Diner, one of just a few original Paramount Diners still standing in the Nation.
