Day 16: Wisconsin to Michigan; Bayfield,
Wisc to Ironwood, Mich – Sept 11; 62 miles
We rode our bikes on Highway 13 to just West of Ashland, Wisconsin, where we got onto Highway 2, Lake Shore Drive. As we rode our bikes thru Ashland, it began to rain hard again so Connie ducked into the lobby of the Pamida store and waited about 15 minutes for it to pass. The store is on a slight hill and when riding down to road level, Connie found the wet wheels offered no brakes!! The others, who were on ahead, peddled thru the short rain despite the dangers since it was a good flat road with a bike path. See Wisconsin bicycle maps here. Just as we approached Ironwood, we passed from Wisconsin back into Michigan! It was so great to see our home state sign again! We stopped at the small Michigan State Visitor's Center just inside Michigan and picked up some good maps for the Upper Peninsula. We spent this night in Ironwood, at the Comfort Inn; arriving just as it started to pour rain again.
