Day 12: Minnesota; Grand Marais to Silver
Bay – Sept 7; 56 miles
In Grand Marais, Mary had a bike problem which Julie quickly helped her repair and we were on our way. We made a stop at the Superior National golf course in Lutsen to check out their pro shop where a few days before, John and Joan had found some wonderful season end deals on label clothing. Julie and her family have spent many a time vacationing in Lutsen both winter and summer so they were familiar with the area. A little further down Highway 61, Connie noticed a sports shop about half way from Grand Marais to Silver Bay called Sawtooth Outfitters, in Tofte where you can rent kayaks and bikes and get repairs and supplies for your bike and outdoor trips. We encountered drizzle on this next stretch of the road. We stopped at the
breath-taking
Palisade Head
with 300
foot cliffs; awesome view of Lake Superior! We spent the night in the AmericInn in Silver Bay. Comments by Julie, Mary, Joan:
